 When is Mental Health Awareness Month?May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and according to the Alliance for Psychiatry, participants use the month to focus on “eliminating stigma, expanding support, promoting public education, and advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

World Mental Health Day was initiated by the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) in 1992 and is celebrated annually on October 10th.

What is mental health? Mental health is the subjective experience of an individual and includes not only positive emotions and feelings, but also all aspects of an individual's life. The hallmarks of mental health in modern medicine are: first, the absence of mental illness; and second, that it is a positive and evolving state of mind.

How to assess mental health? Below are ten criteria proposed by psychologists Maslow and Mittleman, which were once recognized as the “most classic criteria” for mental health.

1. Sufficient sense of security; 2.

2. A good understanding of oneself and a proper evaluation of one's own abilities.

3. Realistic goals in life.

4. to be in touch with the real environment.

5. the ability to maintain integrity and harmony of personality; and

6. is able to learn from experience.

7. able to maintain good interpersonal relationships; and

8. moderate emotional expression and control; and

9. appropriate fulfillment of basic personal needs without violating social norms; and

10. to better express individuality in the context of collective aspirations.
